CHECKLIST FOR MOVING

ADDRESS CHANGE
___ Post Office: Give Forwarding Address.
___ Charge Accounts, Credit Cards.
___ Subscriptions: Notice requires several weeks.
___ Friends and Relatives.
BANK
___ Transfer funds; arrange check cashing in new city.
___ Arrange credit reference.
INSURANCE
___ Notify company of new location for coverage’s: Life, Health, Fire and Auto.
UTILITY COMPANIES
___ Gas, lights, water, telephone, fuel and garbage.
___ Get refunds on any deposit made.
DELIVERY SERVICES
___ Laundry, newspaper, changeover of services.
MEDICAL, DENTAL, PRESCRIPTION HISTORIES
___ Ask Doctor and Dentist for referrals: transfer needs prescriptions, eyeglasses, X-rays.
PETS
___ Ask about regulations for licenses, vaccinations, tags, etc.
DON'T FORGET TO:
___ Empty freezer, plan use of foods.
___ Defrost freezer and clean refrigerator. Place charcoal to dispel odors.
___ Have appliances serviced for moving.
___ Remember arrangement for TV and antenna.
___ Clean rugs or clothing before moving; have them moving-wrapped.
___ Check with your Moving Counselor; insurance coverage, packing and unpacking labor, arrival day, various shipping papers, method and time of expected payment.
___ Plan for special care needs of infants or pets.
ON MOVING DAY
___ Carry enough cash and traveler's checks to cover costs of moving services and expenses until you make banking connections in new city.
___ Carry jewelry and documents yourself; or use registered mail.
___ Plan for transporting of pets; they make poor traveling companions if unhappy.
___ Let close friends or relatives know route and schedule you will be traveling including overnight stops; use him or her as message headquarters.
___ Double check closets, drawers, and shelves to be sure they are empty.
___ Leave all old keys needed by new tenants or owners with Real Estate Professional or owner.
AT YOUR NEW ADDRESS
___ Obtain certified check or cashier check necessary for closing real estate transaction.
___ Check on service of telephone, gas, electricity, water and garbage.
___ Check pilot light on stove, hot water heater and furnace.
___ Have appliances checked.
___ Ask mailman for mail he may be holding for your arrival.
___ Have new address recorded on driver’s license.
___ Visit city office and register to vote.
___ Register car within five days after arrival in state or a penalty may have to be paid when getting new license plates.
___ Obtain inspection stickers and transfer motor club membership.
___ Apply for states driver’s license.
___ Register family in your new place of worship.
___ Register children in school.
___ Arrange for medical services; Doctor, Dentist, Veterinarian, etc.
___ Check with your CPA or accountant for tax-deductible moving expenses.
